Prison inmate found strangled

September 7, 2006

OTAY MESA – A 45-year-old inmate at Donovan prison was found dead in his cell , and an autopsy later determined he had been strangled, authorities said.

The Sheriff's Department is investigating the inmate's death Friday as a homicide, said Lt. Dennis Brugos. There have been no arrests.

The victim was identified at Frank Wang, Brugos said.

Officials at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility first learned of the death about 2 a.m. Saturday. An inmate began banging on his cell door and told an officer his cellmate was “cold,” Brugos said.

The inmate who had alerted guards was removed from the cell and Wang was checked anAd found to be unresponsive. He was moved to the prison infirmary and was pronounced dead at 2:21 a.m. by a prison doctor, Brugos said.
