On the court: There won't be a Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal final at the Open. Mikhail Youzhny of Russia yesterday dismissed Nadal in four sets.

Stat of the day: Against James Blake, Tomas Berdych had 15 break points. He converted none.

Quote of the day: Youzhny on his victory: “Is surprise. But I understand I can beat Nadal. Is very tough, but I can. I didn't think before the tournament I can go to semis. I didn't think nothing.”

On this date: Sept. 7, 1953: Maureen Connolly defeated Doris Hart for the singles title, making her the first woman to complete a Grand Slam.
