- Letters to the editor: Regional Edition
What's more sad and appalling than Rancho Bernardo High students hacking into the school system to steal tests and alter scores is columnist Logan Jenkins' attitude toward it (“Depravity? Cheating case isn't even close,” May 4).

Here we go again, Wal-Mart bashing without any facts. In the May 4 Community Letters, Chris Cruse states that there are 40 Wal-Marts within 100 miles of Springfield, Mo. What he fails to say is that there are more than 150 towns and cities within that 100 miles. There are six Wal-Marts in the whole Springfield area.

- Q&A: If Medi-Cal reimbursements go down, so must hospital services
On April 17 editorial writers Beth Barber and Don Sevrens sat down with Mike Murphy, CEO of Sharp Healthcare; Dan Gross, executive vice president of Sharp Healthcare; and Steve Escoboza, president and CEO of Hospital Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties, to discuss the impact of the looming 10 percent cut in reimbursements to local hospitals for patients on Medi-Cal (called Medicaid in other states).
- DAVID BROOKS THE NEW YORK TIMES
Lessons from Britain's conservatives For years, American and British politics were in sync. Reagan came in roughly the same time as Thatcher, and Clinton's Third Way approach mirrored Blair's. But the British conservatives never had a Gingrich revolution in the 1990s or the Bush victories thereafter.

The real meaning of Mother's Day Remember when Mother's Day was a simple affair? The kids woke Mom up with breakfast in bed – Froot Loops floating on a sea of slightly pink milk – and handmade cards. Everyone was especially nice to one another so Mom could enjoy some “peace and quiet,” commodities in short supply in most mothers' lives.
