SPORTS POLL

The Padres released Jim Edmonds and called up Jody Gerut. Will it make a difference?

1. Yes. The move shows the team isn't giving up on the season, and Gerut has been hot at Triple-A Portland and could spark the lineup.

2. No. Gerut isn't good enough to make an everyday impact at the major league level. The Padres need to see if Chase Headley is ready or make a major move for a big-time outfielder.

LAST WEEK

It's May. Can the Padres break free from their doldrums?

1. Yes. Their pitching is strong, and the hitters just can't stay this cold. It's a long season, after all. (85 votes, 12.3 percent)

2. No. With that anemic offense? It's going to be a long season, all right. (608, 87.7)
