With U.S. auto sales plummeting and the Big Three automakers seeking billions of dollars in federal aid, San Diego car dealers are experiencing their worst downturn in 30 years or longer.

    Dow rockets nearly 900 points

    NEW YORK – Wall Street had another astounding advance yesterday, with the Dow Jones industrials soaring nearly 900 points in their second-largest point gain ever as late-day bargain hunters stormed into the market. The Dow and the Standard & Poor's 500 index each shot up nearly 11 percent.
